Elizabeth Felts

Description of Presentation: Identity. Belonging. Mission in life. These are all of the areas that any student seeks to understand about themselves and the world around them, but we as educators often fail to meet these needs of our students, particularly in a global context. Elizabeth Felts will discuss ways for students to better understand themselves,  their community, their world, and their futures by providing opportunities to consider real-world problems and actively encourage global awareness.

Personal Description: Elizabeth Felts is an English and Career Technical Education (CTE) teacher at New Hanover High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. In 2014, she created the Honors Service Learning program, which allows students to discuss and identify issues in the community and world and seek to solve solutions. Students also engage in various service-learning placements throughout the semester. She has taught both middle and high school, grades 6-12, in diverse settings, including rural and urban schools. Mrs. Felts has a B.S. in Psychology from Calvin College and a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
